ABOUT ME

Hello! I’m Andrea and I’m a professional editor currently based in the sunny climes of the UK. I’ve been editing for over 10 years now, but as with so many things in life I fell into it quite by accident. Only I discovered I was good at it. Like really good at it. And so here we are.

I was an aspiring academic in a former life, and it’s a world in which I am still very much connected to, both personally and professionally. It was during my doctoral studies at the University of Oxford that I took on my first editorial role – getting paid to meticulously analyse and improve books seemed like a no-brainer. But my fascination with language – its structure, its flow, its power – seemed to coalesce perfectly into a passion for editorial rigour that was probably not conducive to my day job. And after learning first-hand just how hard it can be to write with clarity, conviction, and integrity, I began to appreciate that great writing is a collaborative process.

I also came to accept that I much preferred working with other people's words rather than my own, which isn't exactly auspicious for an academic. So I shelved the academy and have since worked with dozens of authors, academics, and organisations from across the world, helping to produce and refine a wonderfully vast array of writing. And while I no longer work amidst the dreaming spires, my academic research and teaching experience (on African history, politics, and sociolinguistics) has been hugely influential on my success as an editor: making writing accessible and inclusive is my low-key obsession.

The world is messy enough without editorial nuance.
